I was very disappointed with this product. When I plugged it in to my PC it overloaded the USB power and when I tried to buy a power supply from Targus, I was told that they no longer supplied them and I had to buy one from a third party source at twice the price plus an exorbitant shipping fee. Now it sometimes works and sometime does not. It is the first item that I have bought through Amazon that i have been really disappointed with
What a lucky find. I purchased this item about a year ago and while I'm not super fond of the two cables and the way they sit kinda horizontal to each other out of the ports, I know that it allows the DVD-player to not need external power and I figured, okay fine it does its job, no problem. Until that is, I discovered the other day, that the player is region free. I can now play European or Asian PAL DVDs in addition to any US NTSC ones, without any additional software, and without purchasing another expensive product. Thank you Targus.
It's unreliable and usually doesn't work at all. I've tried at least another dozen, and there's always an error message saying Windows can't read from the disc, or that there IS no CD in the drive.
For a positive aspect, it is small and light. For a negative aspect.
This drive has very few pros and cons. It was able to read four or five CDs, but nothing since.
it doesn't work. At least not for me.
Same with DVDs many times. I could probably return it, but I've already ordered another model that will (hopefully) actually do what it's supposed to.
Purchased this drive at the same time with my Aspire One. The targus is small, quiet and performs as advertised. I especially like the rubberized coating, keeps it from sliding around and I imagine offers a little more protection if knocked or dropped. Works fine off just the USB, but has the ability to be plugged into the wall.
The disc drive works. It has disc drive errors and has to be shut down occasionally, but not too much.
